Hive Robots Collaborates with DTU on Humanoid Robot Safety

HIVE and DTU collaboration on humanoid robot safety with Unitree robot

Just a few months ago, humanoid robots were seen mainly as a fascinating vision of the future. Today, this perspective is changing rapidly. At Hive Robots, we now meet clients who are seriously considering humanoid solutions as part of their operations.

When adoption becomes real, safety becomes critical.

Safety for humanoid robots is not the same as safety for fixed industrial robots or robotic arms. Existing standards provide a foundation, but new approaches are needed. Humanoids move, interact, and adapt in ways that require us to rethink how safety is defined and implemented.

That is why Hive Robots collaborates with DTU Electro to develop a new paradigm of safety for humanoid robots.

As part of this collaboration, we are:

    • Integrating safety systems natively into our Hive Basic software framework.
    • Applying insights and findings from DTU to ensure that humanoid safety is based on research and best practice.
    • Identifying gaps between existing robot safety regulations and the reality of humanoid robots – and sharing these with the robotics community and lawmakers.

We are honored to collaborate with Associate Professor Xinxin Zhang from Control, Robotics and Embodied AI (CREA), DTU Electro, whose expertise is central to this important initiative. The project will be managed by Martin Thischler.
